Many people who live in Hackensack do not realize the unique place in history this town has concerning the history of the United States. Very few places in America will have a recorded date of a church as early as 1686. When you look up at the First Reformed Church known as "The Church on the Green" located across the street from the County Court House, it has a stone above the door which has engraved in it:

FIRST REFORMED CHURCH
OF
HACKENSACK
-----
CHURCH ORGANIZED A.D.1686
-----
FIRST EDFICE ERECTED 1696 REBUILT 1728
REBUILT 1791, ENLARGED 1847.
ENLARGED AND REMODELED 1869
-----
“MY FATHER’S HOUSE” JOHN 11,XVI.

When facing the Church to the left of the front doors a stone in the Churche's structure is engraved with the name Henry Berry 1791.  That was the year the Church was rebuilt.
To the right of the front door when facing it there is a tablet which reads:

THIS TABLET MARKS THE
SITE OF THE ORIGINAL
CHURCH ERECTED IN 1696
PLACED BY
PASKACK  CHAPTER
DAUGHTERS OF THE
AMERICAN REVOLUTION
1930

The part of the Church's cemetery which is to the left of the Church when facing it about 100 feet from the corner, is where the gravestone for Enoch Poor is located.  Enoch Poor was buried there in 1780, 94 years after the Church organized in 1686.  The Stone Tablet which marks his grave has odd grammar and lettering because of tools and space on the stone states:

IN MEMORY OF THE HONORABLE
BRIGADIER GEN. ENOCH POOR
OF THE STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE
WHO DEPARTED THIS LIFE
ON THE 8 DAY OF SEPTEMBER: 1780

AGED 44 YEARS

WASHINGTON, LAFAYETTE AND A PORTION
OF THE AMERICAN ARMY ATTENDED THE
BURIAL OF GEN. POOR.
IN 1824, LAFAYYETTE RE VISITED THIS
GRAVE, AND TURNING AWAY MUCH
AFFECTED, EXCLAIMED,
"AH! THAT WAS
ONE OF MY GENERALS!"
